MSM which means MethylSulfonylMethane is a naturally occurring
organic source of biologically available nutritional sulfur, an important
dietary component in fresh fruits and vegetables lost during storage and
cooking. Sulfur is a vital mineral of many important amino acids contained in
human cellular proteins. MSM is a form of sulfur used by your body to
support growth and maintenance of the connective tissue in your body such as
cartilage, ligaments, tendons and bones. Although a person might eati a
well balanced diet, often they need additional supplementation of MSM to get a
normal amount of it for use by your body. Not only does MSM support your joints
and connective tissue, it also supports your immune system and just about every
other part of your body.
Although MSM has not yet been established to be a vitamin, it does have a
vitamin like moderating or normalizing effects on different body
functions, as there appears to be a high correlation between abnormal
physiological symptoms and low MSM blood levels in people. Although MSM is found
as a natural constituent of foodstuffs, like vitamin D, the principle supply is
believed to be synthesized by the body using one of its naturally occurring
precursor compounds. Also, excretion data show that MSM occurs in lower
concentrations with increasing age. Too low a body concentration of MSM may
potentially result in adverse physical and psychological stress, tissue and
organ malfunction, fatigue, and increased susceptibility to disease.
MSM is required for collagen synthesis for the hair, nails, and
skin. MSM keeps the cells from becoming hard and rigid. It softens tissue and so
is known as "the beauty mineral" so maybe used in creme form. MSM has
also been used for the following health issues: asthma, arthritis, inflammation,
constipation, candida, and stress. It is used to detoxify the body,
stimulate blood circulation, reduce muscle cramps, and back pain, help muscles
to heal, increases energy, alertness, mental calmness, and the ability to
concentrate. MSM appears to destroy free radicals, provide allergy relief, aid
liver production of choline, help the body’s to produce insulin.
Case Study of MSM as an Arthritis Remedy It is estimated that more than 10
million Americans suffer from some form of Arthritis. If you are one of them,
MSM may provide great pain relief. It has been for many already. James Coburn,
the famous actor, suffered with Rheumatoid arthritis for 23 years and nothing
seemed to work, until James tried methylsulfonylmethane, or MSM. For Mr. Coburn,
it took the pain away and he had relief after 23 years of pain and disability.
Many thousands of people have reported the same experience of almost instant
relief.
MSM is rated as one of the least toxic substances.. The lethal dose (LD-50)
in mice is over 20gm/kg. When given to human volunteers, no toxic effects were
observed at intake levels up to one gm/kg of body weight per day for 30 days.
