| Buchu is found in the southwest region
of Cape Colony in South Africa where it was discovered being used by the
indigenous people. The Hottentot people used it as a stimulant-tonic and stomach
remedy because it soothed. Buchu is an excellent plant to use in the treatment
of chronic kidney inflammations from high acidity of the urine and mucus
formation. Treatment in such conditions will result in increased frequency of
urination, thus a cleaner system. In the pelvic area, when combined with Squaw

Buchu helps alleviate lower back and loin pains by soothing the pelvic nerve.
Buchu finds it primary application in urinary disorders and is considered one of
the best herbs for the urinary organs and is especially soothing when there is
pain while urinating. It is also one of the best herbs for the male prostate
gland. Buchu absorbs excessive uric acid, thus reducing bladder irritations.
Buchu increases the quantity of urine fluids and fecal solids and at the same
time it acts as a tonic, astringent and disinfectant to the mucous membranes.
Buchu may find use in treating the first stages of diabetes. Combined with Uva
Ursi, Buchu has been used for treatment of water retention and urinary tract
infections.
