Neurally mediated hypotension
occurs when there is an abnormal reflex interaction between a persons
heart and their brain and the person has no defects in their heart or brain.
Neurally mediated hypotension is also known by the following names: the fainting
reflex, neurocardiogenic syncope, vasodepressor syncope, the vaso-vagal reflex,
and autonomic dysfunction. Hypotension is the normal medical term used for low
blood pressure, and syncope means fainting. All
people are vulnerable to the reflex that result in a lowered blood pressure, and
each person's vulnerability is affected by these factors: allergies,
diet, genetic make-up, infections, and even psychological issues. Neurally
mediated hypotension symptoms include: low blood pressure, fainting,
fast heart beats, light-headedness, nausea, tired and weak.
