When the eye lens thickens
and becomes cloudy or opaque, then the eye cannot focus or handle light
properly. This eye condition is called a cataract. Causes of cataracts include: aging,
diabetes, heavy metal poisoning, radiation exposure,
eye injury, and certain drugs, such as steroids.
The primary symptom of a developing cataract problem is a slow and painless
loss of vision. Cataracts are the number one cause of blindness in the
world. Sometimes, a cataract can swell causing secondary glaucoma.
Senile cataracts are the most common, affecting persons over 65 years of age.
These cataracts are often caused by free radical damage. Exposure to both
ultraviolet rays and low-level radiation from x-rays can lead to reactive
chemical particles forming in the eye. These free radicals attack the structural
proteins, enzymes, and cell membranes of the lens of the eye. These free
radicals maybe in our food, water, air, and environment are probably the
primary cause of increasing number of people suffering from cataracts.

| A cataract is a clouding that develops in the crystalline lens
of the eye or in the eye's envelope, varying in degree from minor to total
opacity obstructing vision and the passage of light. Early in the development of
age related cataract, the power of the lens may be increased, causing myopia
"near-sightedness", and the gradual yellowing and clouding of the lens
may reduce the perception of blue colors. Cataracts normally progress slowly to
cause vision loss, and are potentially blinding if untreated. The condition
usually affects both of the eyes, but most of the time one eye is affected
before the other eye..
A senile cataract, occurring in the elderly, is indicated by an initial
clouding in the lens then subsequent swelling of the lens and final shrinkage
with total loss of transparency. And with time the cataract cortex liquefies to
form a milky white fluid in a morgagnian cataract, which can cause severe
inflammation if the lens capsule ruptures and leaks. |
|
Left untreated, the cataract can cause phacomorphic glaucoma. Very advanced
cataracts with weak zonules are liable to dislocation anteriorly or posteriorly.
Such spontaneous posterior dislocations (like the historical surgical procedure
of couching) in ancient times were regarded as a blessing from the heavens,
because some perception of light was restored in the cataract patients.
Children can develop cataracts, called congenital cataracts, before or just
after birth, but these are normally dealt with in a different way to cataracts
in adults.

"The person who takes medicine must recover twice, once
from the disease and once from the medicine." William Osler, M.D.

"In sickness the body is already loaded with impurities. By
taking drug - medicines more impurities are added, thereby the case is further

"The necessity of teaching mankind not to take drugs and

You would not think of exposing yourself to an Atomic Bomb fallout or
excessive X-rays. But not getting enough vitamins and minerals is just as
dangerous. Cells in your body not getting their vitamins and minerals suffer
both DNA and mitochondrial damage. These cells under a microscope look like they
have been hit with radiation. This type of damage may cause you to age faster
and can lead to Cancer
and other degenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and others.
