  Hepatitis

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver and comes in many types such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and  hepatitis C. The different letters A, B, and C simply indicate a different virus causing the hepatitis. The  liver becomes tender and enlarged and has problems functioning normally. This results in a buildup of toxins in the body that would normally be filtered out by the liver. Symptoms of hepatitis include: appetite loss, fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, weakness, light colored stools, muscle aches, drowsiness, dark urine, and often a yellowing of the skin. All forms of hepatitis are contagious.  Hepatitis B is the 9th leading cause of death in the USA. A lower digestive system cleansing maybe helpful, the colon and intestines are prime places for toxins to build up. ...more

Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, normally caused by a viral infection. The liver becomes tender and enlarged and is unable to operate as normal. As a result, toxins that would normally be filtered out by the liver build up in the body, and certain nutrients are not processed and stored as they should be. Symptoms of hepatitis include: fever, weakness, nausea, vomiting, headache , appetite loss, muscle aches, joint pains, drowsiness, dark urine, light colored stools, abdominal discomfort, and, often, jaundice which is a yellowing of the skin, and elevated liver enzymes in the blood. Flu like symptoms can be either mild or very severe for the person.

There are several different kinds of hepatitis, named according to the virus that causes the condition. In the last 15 years, researchers have identified the viruses responsible for three leading kinds of the disease, they are called hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. There are also other, less common types known as hepatitis E, and non-A, non-B hepatitis. All of them are highly contagious. Hepatitis A, also known as "infectious hepatitis", is very easily passed by person to person contact, and through contact with food, clothing, bed linen, and other objects. It is contagious between 2 to 3 weeks before and one week after jaundice appears. After a round with hepatitis A, the person develops an immunity to it. Hepatitis B, also known as to as "serum hepatitis", is spread through contact with infected blood (like the sharing of contaminated syringes, needles, and transfused blood) and some forms of sexual activity. it is estimated that up to 5% of all Americans, and as much as 85% of gay men, are infected with hepatitis B. However, most hepatitis B infections come and go unrecognized. In some 10% of cases, the disease becomes chronic, scarring the liver and making it more vulnerable to cancer. Hepatitis B is the 9th leading cause of death in the USA. Hepatitis C accounts for 20 to 40% of all hepatitis and 90 to 95% of hepatitis contracted through blood transfusions. Tests can now detect antibodies against hepatitis C in donated blood, a major advance in ensuring a safe blood supply, but an infected person may take up to 6 months to develop the antibodies to it, so it is not possible to identify all infected blood. Hepatitis C can also be contracted through intravenous drug use, sexual contact, and broken skin or mucous membranes. In addition to the various types of viral hepatitis, there is a form of the disease called toxic hepatitis, which can be caused by exposure to chemicals, mainly the injection, ingestion, or absorption of toxins through the skin. Chlorinated hydrocarbons and arsenic are examples of severe hepatotoxic agents. In toxic hepatitis, the amount of exposure to the toxin determines the extent of liver damage.

Whatever form of hepatitis good nutritional supplementation can help either prevent it or aid in the healing process.
