Alzheimer's disease (or Alzheimers) affects about 10% of people over 65 years
old. This disease is a form of dementia and is the 4th leading cause of death
for people over 60. Alzheimer's can also affect people as early as their
40's. The disease includes progressive mental deterioration or memory loss and
reduction of abstract thought processes as well. Symptoms include lack of
concentration, depression, memory loss, personality
changes, mood swings, disorientation, and loss of bladder and bowel
control. Death can occur within 5 to 10 years. The person's health and
functioning get worse and worse until the person is totally incapacitated. There
are nutritional and supplements that appear to help.

| Alzheimer's disease is also known in medical literature as
Alzheimer disease and is the most common form of dementia. There is no cure for
the disease that worsens as it progresses, and eventually leads to death. The
disease was first described by a German psychiatrist / neuropathologist named
Alois Alzheimer in 1906.
Alzheimer's disease can develop differently in every person, but, there are
several common symptoms. The first symptoms are normally thought to be aging
related problems or manifestations of stress.
And in the early stages, the most common symptom is problems remembering even
recent events. When Alzheimers is suspected then the diagnosis is normally
confirmed with tests that evaluate behavior as well as the person's thinking
abilities. Followed by a brain scan if that is available.
Then as Alzheimer's disease progresses the symptoms may include aggression,
confusion, irritability, mood swings, trouble with speaking, and long term
memory loss. As the person gets worse they often withdraw from family and
society. Over time their body functions are lost which ultimately leads to
death. Since the disease is different for each person, that it makes predicting
how AD will affect the person. Alzheimers develops in an unknown and variable
amount of time before it becomes obvious, and it can progress undiagnosed for
many years. On the average, the life expectancy following diagnosis is around 7
seven years. Less than 3% of people live more than 14 years after diagnosis.
The cause for most Alzheimer's disease is still unknown with the exception of
between 1 - 5% of cases where genetic differences have been found. Many
hypotheses try to explain the cause of the AD disease with the oldest idea being
that Alzheimers is caused by reduced synthesis of the neurotransmitter called
acetylcholine. However, this cholinergic hypothesis has not maintained
widespread support, mainly because medications intended to treat acetylcholine
deficiency so far have not been proven to be very effective. So various other
cholinergic effects have been proposed, for example, initiation of large scale
aggregation of amyloid leading to generalized neuro-inflammation. |
|
Currently, there is no definitive evidence to support that any particular
measures are effective in preventing Alzheimer's disease. Research studies of
measures to prevent or delay the onset of AD have produced both different and
inconsistent results. But, some epidemiological research studies have proposed
there are relationships between certain modifiable factors, such as diet, cardiovascular
disease risk, pharmaceutical drugs, or brain activities and a people's risk
of getting Alzheimers. Perhaps further mdeical research, including clinical
trials may reveal whether these factors can help to prevent AD.
Cardiovascular risk factors including hypercholesterolemia, hypertension,
diabetes, and smoking,
are associated with a higher risk of onset and course of AD. Statins that are cholesterol
lowering drugs have been shown not to be effective in preventing or
improving the problems of the disease. The Mediterranean diet that includes
fruit and vegetables, bread, wheat and other cereals, olive oil, fish, and red
wine with resveratrol, may all individually or together reduce the risk and help
slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease. The diets beneficial cardiovascular
effect has been proposed as the reason for this help. There is also limited
evidence that light to moderate use of alcohol, particularly red wine that has
resveratrol in it, can also both lower the risk of Alzheimer's disease and
help slow the disease.

You
have a wonderful human body that when given the right nutrients in the right
amounts can heal itself.
"Most people do not consume an optimal amount of all vitamins by diet
alone. Pending strong evidence of effectiveness from randomized trials, it
appears prudent for all adults to take vitamin supplements." - JAMA
Journal of the American Medical Association 6/12/2002 Vol 287
There are
hundreds of studies which show the risk of cancer, heart disease, and other top
killers is reduced by eating more than just the minimal RDA standards.
Prevention
is the main defense from disease. Detoxification and having proper nutritional
balance is the treatment. Natural foods, herbs, vitamins and supplements to

You would not think of exposing yourself to an Atomic Bomb fallout or
excessive X-rays. But not getting enough vitamins and minerals is just as
dangerous. Cells in your body not getting their vitamins and minerals suffer
both DNA and mitochondrial damage. These cells under a microscope look like they
have been hit with radiation. This type of damage may cause you to age faster
and can lead to Cancer
and other degenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and others.
